Creating an Oasis in Your En suite:
Bring Hotel Luxury to Your Bathroom
Most people entering a bathroom in a luxury hotel today usually have one reaction – immediate relaxation. The combination of design elements used in high-end hotel powder rooms have been studied and installed to give you this reaction. When you leave the hotel, many times you just want to bring that bathroom home with you. Now, you can! And it is not as difficult or as expensive as you might think.
Bathroom Luxury at Home
So what elements make an en suite feel like a spa? Here are a few ideas to consider:
- Rich Looking and Feeling Flooring: The flooring used in luxury hotels looks rich and feels incredible under your feet. There is no need to use the best-of-the-best tile to obtain this design element. When selecting tile, take a very high-end tile and compare it to a less costly tile. Take the time to match the tiles side-by-side and choose the one that is as closest to the look and feel of the more expensive one. What you are trying to create is a tile pattern that is contemporary, fresh, but at the same time timeless. If your budget allows, make your floor heated by adding under-the-floor heating.
- Luxurious Showerhead: One of the best activities in the world is to take a long shower under the perfect showerhead. The perfect showerhead is a matter of preference, but many people enjoy a showerhead that releases the water in a large spray pattern, like you are standing in a heavy rain shower. Such showerheads can have multiple settings and are available in handheld models. Of course, you also need a lot of water pressure to get the ultimate shower experience.
- Big Fluffy Towels and Heated Towel Bar: Sound extravagant? Big fluffy towels (white in particular) hanging on a heated towel bar all ready and waiting for you when you exit the shower gives you a warm sensation like no other. Towel warmers can be mounted on a wall or stand on a floor with some models priced under $150 (US).
- Free Standing Tub and Curb-less Showers: These are two trends for 2014. A free standing tub can be of any type – a classic claw foot tub, a tub designed with a contemporary look, a regular tub with architectural elements – all will work to get that spa feel in your bathroom. In addition, installing tiled showers where the floor runs continuously throughout the bathroom with out the curb that pops up between the shower and the bathroom floor is a design you will see more and more.
Other touches you can add to upgrade your bathroom from dull to spectacular include adding a make-up/shaving non-fog mirror, painting the walls in neutral colors – beige, gray – instead of pinks and blues, as well as smart-touch faucets. For the final touch, place various toiletries such as lotions, powders, soaps and the like strategically around the bathroom – on the vanity for example. No need to spend a fortune on these, as long as they smell good and look good in the space.
Spas provide you with a place to relax so that you can wash away the day and rejuvenate for tomorrow. Installing and using some or all of the above elements will transform a dull space into one that refreshes you. Be sure to check out some bathroom ideas.
